Public Service Fellowship Offerings

Public Service Fellowship Offerings for 2020

Over the years, we have evolved two main offerings designed to connect aspiring public servants with federal, tribal, state, and local governments and nonprofit agencies in Oregon.

Oregon Summer Fellowship

The first is the Oregon Summer Fellowship, a 10-week paid service learning experience aimed at students who have typically completed their first year of graduate studies. Oregon Summer Fellows receive a $6,000 stipend for the successful completion of their fellowship.

Hatfield Resident Fellowship

The second is the Hatfield Resident Fellowship, an 8-month residency designed for recent masters and doctoral graduates who are seeking to transition into public sector and nonprofit careers. Hatfield Fellows receive a $25,000 stipend for the successful completion of their fellowship, which they fulfill as PSU employees.

In addition to our flagship Oregon Summer and Hatfield Resident Fellows programs, since 2018 we’ve worked in partnership with the office of Oregon Treasurer Tobias Read to place students with a particular interest in fiscal practices and public finance. (Named in honor of Oregon’s former Treasurer and public finance innovator, more information about this partnership and Straub’s legacy can be found at

Straub Fellowship applicants must meet the same criteria, and are paid on the same terms, as other Fellows. To be considered for these placements, applicants need to answer an additional question on the application.
