EVIC Local Election Official (LEO) Survey

About the LEO Survey

The Local Election Official (LEO) Survey assesses the state of American election administration directly through the lens of local election officials. These officials act as the "stewards of democracy," playing a critical, front-line role in supporting and advancing our electoral system. The LEO Survey serves to amplify and elevate the voices of LEOs in national, regional, and state conversations about election administration, election integrity, conduct, and reform.

First fielded in 2018, this yearly, nationally representative survey tracks the administrative, policy, and operational conditions of election officials across the U.S. The survey results provide vital data on the daily realities of running elections, measuring everything from workforce well-being and public trust to the operational impacts of state policy, budgets, and technology.

2024 LEO Survey

The 2024 Survey of Local Election Officials (LEOs) is the sixth survey conducted by EVIC. The survey provides LEOs with an important, timely, and respectfully brief opportunity to weigh in on issues of concern in their profession.

The survey was fielded from mid-July to mid-October 2024 to a sample of over 3,100 randomly selected LEOs. We thank the local election officials in advance for their thoughtful responses to our questions.

The 2024 LEO Survey is supported by grants from the Democracy Fund and the Election Trust Initiative. EVIC is solely responsible for the content, administration, and use of the survey results.
