Sexual Misconduct – which includes sexual assault, harassment, dating and domestic violence, and stalking – is a significant college health issues that affect our students’ safety, well-being, and academic success.

There has been significant media attention over the past few years around college sexual misconduct, often highlighting gaps in campus response.  Here at PSU we have a team of professionals who take this issue very seriously and are committed to ensuring that student safety is a priority.  This team is available to support all faculty and staff who may become aware of a student affected by sexual misconduct.

If a student discloses to you that they have been affected by sexual misconduct, it is important that you are prepared to appropriately respond to them with the relevant resources. There are several departments at PSU that are available to support you in navigating student disclosures. Here are key resources all faculty and staff should be aware of:

  • All PSU policies and services related to sexual misconduct can be found at  Listing this resource on your syllabi or departmental materials is very helpful to students.
  • There is a lot that we can do to support student safety! The WRC Interpersonal Violence Advocate can talk with students about their reporting options, how to access safe housing, connect them to legal services, sexual-assault specific medical services, counseling, and help with academic options.
  • If a student begins to share an experience of sexual harassment, assault, or any other crises, please advise the reporting student that you cannot offer them confidentiality.  If the students wish to speak to a confidential support person, please contact the IPV Advocate for a referral.  Our confidential resources on campus are: counselors at the Center for Student Health and Counseling and attorneys at Student Legal Services.
  • The IPV Program at the WRC is able to offer students privacy, and our goal is to support students by offering them all available resources and supporting them throughout whatever actions they choose to take.  Please call us at 503-725-5672 with any questions about our services.

The C.A.R.E. Team, hosted by the Dean of Student Life, is available to consult with you regarding any issues of students in distress, including sexual misconduct.  For more information about the C.A.R.E. Team, call 503-725-4422 to contact the C.A.R.E. Team Coordinator.

In addition to ensuring a comprehensive response to incidents of sexual misconduct, we are also working to prevent sexual violence before it occurs.  During the academic year we partner with the Sexual Assault Theater Capstone Class, which is a peer education model focused on issues of consent and sexual violence prevention.  We offer three performances each quarter, and are happy to come to your classroom or department meeting!  Contact Jessica Amo at to schedule a performance.
