Civil and Environmental Engineering MS Thesis Defense: Chengxin Dai
Friday, March 15, 2013 - 2:00pm

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is pleased to announce Chengxin Dai's MS Thesis Defense: "Exploring Data Quality of Weigh-In-Motion Systems."

Date: Friday, March 15, 2013
Time: 2:00pm
Location: Engineering Building 315 (ITS Lab)
Adviser: Dr. Christopher Monsere

Overweight trucks shorten road life and raise the cost of road maintenance. A robust Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) system may increase the detection of overweight trucks, thereby supporting a wide array of commercial truck weight regulations and enforcement. By using a combination of existing and newly identified data quality methods, this research thoroughly evaluates the performance of Oregon WIM systems on Interstate-84 for the weight and axle spacing data quality. The results of this analysis provide recommendations for implementation of WIM data quality methods to further improve the overall WIM system performance.
