Nikolay Nikolov

Hi! My name is Nikolay and I am a Computer Engineering student at PSU. I call Portland State my home, so much so that I consider my advisor to be almost like a father figure and my classmates as my family.

I feel very privileged because I have the opportunity to meet and study with incredibly bright people every day. I decided to become an MCECS ambassador because it brings me joy to share the feelings of pride and love that I have for Portland State University.

My career goals and long term aspirations are to improve the way we handle waste and recycling. Using renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and robotics, we can build a future where landfills will no longer be needed. I also would like to work to improve urban farming and help developing countries build affordable, modern facilities for hydroponics. Ideally, this will aid the country’s competition in the global market and lead to increased crop yields without sacrificing the natural habitats of endangered species.

My biggest advice for everyone starting out in engineering is to take it one step at a time and be consistent. Slow and steady wins the race. Learning is a gradual process and works very differently for everybody.
