The Office of Academic Affairs is launching a national search to fill the position of Vice Provost for International Affairs and has appointed Scott Dawson, dean of the School of Business Administration, as search committee chair. Patricia Wetzel has agreed to serve as interim vice provost during the search. Wetzel, a professor of Japanese, joined PSU in 1984 and has held leadership roles in the College of Liberal Arts and Science and in the Institute for Asian Studies. She is presently associate chair in her department and a member of the Internationalization Council.
Wetzel replaces Vice Provost Gil Latz, who is leaving Portland State next month to serve in the dual role of associate vice chancellor for international affairs, Indiana University/Purdue University, Indiana, and associate vice president for international affairs at Indiana University. After 27 years at Portland State, nine years as vice provost for International Affairs, Latz is leaving a significant legacy of leadership and service. The University marked his many achievements during a campus reception on Oct. 24.
Membership of the vice provost search committee will be confirmed in the next week and will include individuals with experience in the variety of activities coordinated by the Office of International Affairs, including the implementation of Portland State's internationalization vision and goals, support of students and faculty, the work of the international centers and institutes, and the development of international partnerships. A new vice provost is expected to be onboard by fall 2012.
As information becomes available, search news will be posted on the Academic Affairs website.
