Dear PSU Students:

The Portland State University Board of Trustees would like to provide an additional opportunity for the Board to hear from, and talk with, PSU students before we wrap up this academic year. For those of you who may not be familiar with the Board and its role, we are a body of citizen-volunteers appointed by the Governor of Oregon and charged with responsibility to set the University’s overall strategic direction and high-level policy.

Since its creation in 2014, the Board has heard from a number of students. Members of the Board meet informally with students on a regular basis and have also been meeting with small groups of students for the last several months. The Board has also heard from students at its regular Board meetings, although those meetings provide limited opportunity for dialogue due to the formal nature of regular Board meetings and the limited time available.

The Board is considering ways to have more regular opportunities for campus engagement during the upcoming academic year and beyond. In the meantime, however, we’ve decided to schedule one additional opportunity to engage with trustees prior to the end of the year. This will be an extended opportunity to share perspectives, insights or concerns about the University and to hear back from trustees. The Board has scheduled no other business for this meeting, other than to hear from and talk with students. This special meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 25 from 10 am to noon in the University Boardroom, on the fifth floor of the Academic and Student Recreation Center. We recognize that it is near that end of the term, so you may not be able to attend. We expect to provide other opportunities for engagement in the coming year. However, if you can make it, we would like to hear from you.

This special Board meeting is an opportunity for students to share information or raise concerns with the Board, as well as an opportunity for members of the Board and the administration to ask questions and share perspectives and information. In order to allow us to plan and facilitate the meeting in an effective manner, students who wish to participate in the discussion need to sign up using the form below. We will try to group students by topical area and also try to have relevant University officials present.

At the meeting, please plan to provide an overview of your topic or concern within two to three minutes, in order to then allow time for follow-up questions and dialogue. If you would like to raise your topic or concern as a small group (of no more than three) students, please provide that information and the names of all participating students in the Notes section of the form. If you are able to attend only part of the meeting due to scheduling difficulties, please indicate that in the Notes section and we will try to accommodate your scheduling needs.
