A new Certificate of Innovation in College Teaching launches this 2017 fall quarter for GTA's across PSU. The mission of the Certificate of Innovation in College Teaching is to professionalize graduate teaching assistants as future faculty and to prepare them to engage in a teaching practice that actively considers students’ access to higher education, confronts issues of equity in and out of the classroom, espouses current best practices in higher education, and adopts evolving innovations that are supported by research.

The GTA Professional Development Program is modeled after CU Boulder’s 30-year Graduate Teacher Program, and involves a Fall Intensive GTA Training Event, a Lead GTA Program, general and discipline-specific workshops, videoed teaching consultations, course observations and mid-quarter feedback, and a teaching and professional development portfolio, culminating in a certificate awarded upon completion of the program.

This program is open to any GTA interested in improving their teaching practice and can be completed in 1-2 years. As part of the new Certificate of Innovation in College Teaching, the Office of Academic Innovation and other offices on campus are offering professional development workshops that will support your teaching and development as a professional in your field.
