Lunch + Learn: Improving Student Success Through Gateway Courses

Learn how Active + Adaptive is now impacting STEM disciplines and improving student access to gateway courses. Join us in coversation with Radhika Reddy, who teaches the Biology for non-majors sequence, and Priya Jamkhedkar, who teaches the Algebra-based introductory Physics sequence, and learn about their experiments with Active + Adaptivestrategies in their respective courses.

Please join us for an OAI hosted lunch on either Feb 6th or 8th, and learn about their early successes as well as the unique challenges of applying this work. After their informal presentations, there will be time for Q&A.

About the Presenters
Dr. Radhika Reddy is an Instructor of Biology at the Portland State University where she teaches the Fundamentals of Biology Sequence (non majors survey course), Neurophysiology, and Sensory Physiology. In addition to her role in the classroom, Dr. Reddy serves as the Research Enrichment Coordinator for Portland State’s BUILD EXITO program, where she trains, mentors, and builds research capacity for undergraduates pursuing research careers in the Biomedical sciences. Dr. Reddy’s research career has been focused on molecular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity, and includes graduate training in hippocampal synaptic plasticity (Johns Hopkins University), postdoctoral training in molecular mechanisms of fear based learning (New York University), and research in neuroendocrine regulated mechanisms in circuit formation (Oregon Health Sciences University).

Dr. Priya Jamkhedkar is an instructor of Physics at Portland State University. Jamkhedkar completed her Master’s at the India Institute of Technology, Bombay, India and Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Arizona in 2002 in the field of Cosmology and Astrophysics. Her research interests include astrophysics and cosmology, physics and mathematics education for undergraduate students, data analysis and modeling techniques.
