THESIS: Architectures of Cultural Transformation
Portland State University's Master of Architecture Degree, 2011-2016

"Architecture is constructed virtue – or better, it is the Queen of Virtues, as Palladio labeled it on the frontispiece of his treatise – by which humans interact bodily, tectonically, and culturally with a region that they modify to their advantage.”  - Marco Frascari

The aim of our design thesis program is not to rest simply in proposing another building. As the culmination of a graduate architectural education the design thesis is a singular opportunity for an individual to proclaim a position, state a case, articulate what matters and communicate this through the language of architecture.

Through a combination of rigorous research and creative exploration of a polemical issue framed as a question, our thesis students discover their passion for the contribution architecture can make to the transformation of culture.

A selection of design thesis books and projects from all six graduating classes of our Master of Architecture program will be featured at this exhibition.
