New Positions in OAA

Melody Rose accepted the position of Vice Provost for Academic Programs and Instruction, effective September 1, 2010. Since 2007 Melody has been the chair of the department of Political Science and recently has served the University as Special Assistant to President Wiewel. As the founder and Director of the Center for Women, Politics & Policy, Melody's work in gender and politics has been recognized nationally through the Carrie Chapman Catt Prize Honorable Mention, and Melody will soon receive the 2010 Women of Achievement Award by the Oregon Governor's Commission for Women. Through her work as the current City Club of Portland president-elect, on the Long Term Fiscal Strategies (LTIFS) group, and as a departmental academic leader, Melody will bring significant experience and skills to her new OAA portfolio that includes graduate and undergraduate studies and instruction.

Kevin Reynolds accepted the position of Vice Provost for Academic Fiscal Strategies and Planning, effective September 1, 2010. Since 2005 Kevin has been the chair of the Department of Chemistry where his leadership has led to significant transformation and expansion of both educational and research activities. He has also been active in many other campus activities, including planning the South Waterfront Life Sciences Building and participating on the Long Term Fiscal Strategies (LTIFS) group. Kevin demonstrates a keen sense of our fiscal and academic challenges and has proposed innovative ways to address them. He and I look forward to working together with faculty and other administrators through both our membership on the Financial Futures Committee and selected OAA initiatives related to the work of LTIFS.

I look forward to working with the two new vice provosts who are joining a strong team of colleagues in OAA.
