Sexual Assault Awareness Month Events

Sexuality and the Generations

April 5th 2016 from 5:30 - 7:30 PM in the Women's Resource Center

The Sexuality and the Generations workshop will be a discussion-based workshop to review the ways in which we can facilitate healthy relationships in our lives, which works to create inclusivity and autonomy for all individuals.


April 12th 2016 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the Rec Center (ASRC)

Join Campus Rec and the Women's Resource Center during Sexual Assault Awareness Month for PSU's first-ever Zumbathon! Give back to your community while dancing your cares away. There will be multiple instructors leading participants through a variety of musical genres and dance styles. A $5 suggested donation helps the WRC provide safe shelter for women fleeing domestic violence. Join the party for five minutes or the full two hours — Open to the entire PSU community and up to three accompanied guests (guest fee waived for this special event). Valid Portland State ID or Alumni Association card required for admission. Guests are required to have a government issued photo ID. 

SASS(y) Hour: Know Your Rights: Sexual Violence Legislation 101

April 13th 2016 from 12:00 - 1:00 PM at the Women's Resource Center

SASS(y) Hour is a monthly workshop featuring a topic related to sexual violence prevention, brought to you by the Student Alliance for Sexual Safety (SASS). This month's workshop will cover important sexual violence legislation and allow PSU students to learn about their rights to institutional protection from and response to sexual violence. 

YWCA Sexual Assault Dynamics

April 19th 2016 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the YWCA

This presentation will help participants understand the root causes of sexual violence, its prevalence, its impact on survivors, and the dynamics that make sexual violence a stigmatizing crime.The presenter will discuss how perpetrators of sexual violence chose victims based on perceived or created vulnerability and lack of credibility. Oppressed communities are often perceived as more vulnerable, and have less perceived credibility than privileged classes of people and therefore are often targeted by perpetrators.

Survivor Speak-Out

April 19th 2016 from 6:30 – 9:00 PM in the Women’s Resource Center

The survivor speak out is dedicated to survivors sharing their stories and building community.

Giant Volleyball

April 21st 2016 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the Rec Center (ASRC)

Campus Recreation will be hosting Giant Volleyball to promote Take Back The Night. We will be playing volleyball with an oversized volleyball and will be providing information about the Take Back The Night event that is happening on April 26th. Valid Portland State ID or Alumni Association card required for admission.

Screening of the Hunting Ground

April 25th 2016 from 5:30 – 8:30 PM in the Multicultural Community Center

The PNW Best Practices Conference will begin by screening the critically acclaimed documentary “The Hunting Ground,” a 2015 documentary about sexual assaults on college campuses. The Student Alliance for Sexual Safety will facilitate the event, including a dialogue after the film. 

“The Hunting Ground” premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January to critical acclaim. Through expert insights and first-person testimonies, the documentary follows undergraduate and graduate rape survivors pursuing both education and justice while exposing a system of institutional cover-ups, victim-blaming, and denial

PNW Best Practices Conference

April 26th 2016 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM in Smith Memorial Student Union

Portland State University is pleased to host the 2016 Pacific Northwest Higher Education Best Practices Conference on Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response on April 26th, 2016. This one-day conference is free and open to any staff or faculty who are involved in the prevention, response and/or reporting of sexual misconduct.

Take Back the Day Student Symposium

April 26th 2016 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM in Smith Memorial Student Union

The 2016 Take Back the Day Symposium will be held at Portland State University on April 26th, 2016! This will be a free symposium for students that are engaging in the work to end gender based violence. 

The Take Back the Day Symposium will parallel the 2016 Pacific Northwest Higher Education Best Practices Conference on Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response that will be held for Campus Administrators, Faculty, and Staff.

Take Back the Night

April 26th 2016 from 5:30 – 9:00 PM in Smith Memorial Student Union

Take Back the Night is the Portland State Women's Resource Centers signature event that has happened each year for both students and the larger Portland community. The first Take Back the Night (TBTN) event sponsored by the Women's Resource Center at PSU was in 2002. Since the 1970's, TBTN has focused on eliminating sexual and domestic violence in all forms. The event has been hosted yearly since this date. This year, our keynote speaker will be Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha.

Gentle Yoga with Erica Wagner
Mondays from 4:45-6:00 PM in the WRC Lounge

An all levels class that is designed to regulate your nervous system through easeful postures, breath work, relaxation, and meditation. If you have a mat, you are welcome to bring it. All bodies are welcome.

Returning Women Students Peer Support Group

The Returning Women Peer Support Group is a chance for non-traditional students to share resources, gain skills, and provide encouragement to one another. It is a free drop in group that meets weekly. For more information contact Virginia at
