Veterans Game Night!

Please join us in playing games, building sandwiches and building community! The Women Veterans Outreach Action Team is committed to creating a space for women veterans at PSU, providing resources that benefit women veterans and their families, and hosting educational and fun events. We would like to invite all women vets and allies to Game Night. Bring a friend to game night for your Cranium team, enjoy some tasty snacks and community-building fun! Quinceañera Cultural Movie Event

Where: Women’s Resource Center (Montgomery Hall Basement)
When: May 25th from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Synopsis of Quinceañera:

Magdalena is 14 and anxiously awaiting her 15th birthday where she'll celebrate her quinceañera. Her world starts to crumble when she discovers her pregnancy after not being able to fit in her gown for her quinceañera. Soon, she's kicked out of her home, abandoned by her family, and abandoned by her baby's father. Magdalena is then taken in by her great-granduncle, Tomas and her gay, often-in-trouble cousin, Carlos. There she finds a new family and life. Crafternoons!

Meets every Wednesday

Bring your knitting, crochet, sewing and gripes. Share skills, ideas and thoughts. Everyone is welcome. Yarn and needles are also available for beginners or those in need. Film and Discussion: Miss Representation

Hosted by the Women of Color Action Team

The film challenges the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself. Stories from teenage girls and provocative interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists and academics. Snacks provided. Women Veterans Outreach Action Team

The Women Veterans Outreach Action Team provides outreach to women vets, raises awareness about the unique needs of women veterans, identifies resources that would be beneficial to women veteran students, and works to create ties with Veterans’ Student Services. Women of Color Zine Symposium

Saturday, June 2nd
9:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
PSU’s Smith Memorial Center
Funded in part by the Regional Arts & Culture Council.
Co-sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center at PSU.

The day will consist of tabling of zines, an open-mic and raffle session, a workshop lead by LaMesha Melton (creator of Cocoa/Puss zine), and will end with a performance by local all female/multi-cultural rap group, RoseBent. The main purpose of the symposium is to provide women of color with a way to connect with each other creatively, and to create a more visible presence in Portland of the women of color culture here. Allies are welcomed to attend.

The WOC Zine group is seeking volunteers to help with fundraising, promotion, greeters, photographer etc and those interested in tabling at the event. The WOC Zine group also welcomes women of color artists to contribute to future zine issues. To contact Tonya Jones for interviews or further information: tljones29@yahoo.com. Women of Color Action Team

The Women of Color Action Team serves the goals of the Empowerment Project at the Women's Resource Center. The purpose of this action team: (a) provide a safe space for women of color on campus (b) build community and network with allies (c) fun and empowering events. This group meets bi-weekly.
