El Programa Hispano - Project UNICA (Un Nuevo Inicio para Concluir el Abuso / A New Beginning to End Abuse)

Feminist Writing Group
Meets every Wednesday

Join the Feminist Writing Group for afternoons of radical writing. Learn about getting involved with the community of feminist writers at Portland State as we act as a cultural creators for social change and personal transformation! Bring writing utensil, paper, and friends. This group is open to all self-identified feminist writers from all writing backgrounds. Roslyn's lecture is titled "Living the Dream of Beloved Community". The lecture will feature steps we can take in our daily lives to truly create and live in the beloved community here and now. From soldier to student: Combating PTSD
and integration into collegiate life

and SSgt Eddie Black, USMC

Join us for an informational event about PTSD and MST (military sexual trauma) at the Women's Resource Center. The event will focus on veterans in transition and address the challenges that veterans face when returning to civilian life. We will also discuss how college campuses can develop an environment that fosters college success in veteran populations. About the speakers: Belle Landau has been the executive director at the Returning Veterans Project for two years. Her youngest son is an OIF veteran. Belle’s employment background includes developing violence prevention and early intervention programs and managing and raising funds for nonprofits that serve women, families and children. SSgt. Eddie Black, is a Marine veteran of Desert Storm and an OIF combat veteran. He is currently serving his country in the capacity of Reintegration Area Manager Southern Oregon, for the South Oregon Reintegration Team.

Women Veterans Outreach Action Team

The Women Veterans Outreach Action Team provides outreach to women veterans, raises awareness about the unique needs of women veterans, identifies resources for women veteran students, and works to create ties with Veterans’ Student Services. The Action Team typically meets twice a month, as announced. WRC Volunteer Opportunities
Women's Resource Center
The WRC is always in need of volunteers. There are many different ways to get involved. Come in to our lobby and fill out an application or click here to fill one out online.

  • Front Desk
    Staff the front office by greeting those coming in, answering phones, making appointments, and completing other duties as they arise. Connect students with resources and create a welcoming and encouraging environment for students to seek crisis services, develop skills, and build community. Help maintain our plants, kitchen area, and lounge space. Holds a weekly four hour shift.
  • SheSheet Writer
    Update the Women's Resource Center's blog by collecting and writing submissions for weekly or bi-weekly columns. Share important feminist news updates and reviews of campus and community events.
  • Students United for Reproductive Freedom
    Work to support the rights of people to make their own decisions about their own reproductive and sexual health and to have access to knowledge and resources to help make those decisions. Develop goals and hold events on campus and produce materials which engage students in relevant issues of reproductive justice. Meets weekly.
  • Sister to Sister Mentor Program
    A mentor program for returning women students, women veterans, student parents, women of color, and first generation students. Be partnered with another student and help them navigate campus resources and experiences.
  • Love Your Body Action Team
    Works to address issues of body Image and eating disorder awareness on campus. Creates programming materials which outreach to students as well as hold events and weekly meetings. Develop goals in conjunction with the WRC Director.
  • Sustainability Action Team
    Survey current practices and suggest sustainable improvements. Create ties between the Office of Sustainability and the WRC while working with the WRC Director. Identify and share connections with social sustainability, environmental sustainability, and women.  Create programming materials as well as hold weekly/bi-weekly meetings with members.

WomenStrength Self Defense
Registration now open for
March classes

WomenStrength self-defense classes are designed to introduce teenage and adult women to a variety of strategies, including some survival level fighting skills, designed to help defend against sexual assault. The Portland Police Bureau believes that fighting can be an effective response to the threat of sexual assault. To register for classes click here or call 503-823-0260.

Portland Women's Crisis Line
PWCL is a volunteer-driven agency that operates with the support of dedicated members and volunteers. Volunteers may choose to provide direct services as advocates in the Crisis Line and/or the Sexual Assault Programs. Inter-Personal Violence Support Group

This is a weekly all-genders support group for self-identified LGBTQ people who are experiencing or have experienced physical, emotional, sexual, or economic violence within an intimate relationship. Facilitated by a queer-identified advocate from Bradley Angle, this group is appropriate for any LGBTQ person who has left a violent or abusive situation, is thinking of leaving, or would simply like support and resources for understanding the dynamics of the violence in their relationship. Gender Queery

This is a discussion group for trans, genderqueer, folks outside-the-gender-binary, and allies. Meetings have great discussions on an ever-changing topic followed by informal social time and always takes place on the first Monday of the month. PWCL Support Groups

503-235-5333/888-235-5333. Support groups run for 10 weeks at a time and are usually in the evenings on a weekday. Call for current schedule.
Adult Survivors of Childhood Trauma
Phase One Support Group

For childhood survivors of trauma who have had little or no formal therapy. This group has an educational format. Topics include boundaries, self-care, coping strategies.

For childhood survivors of trauma who have had formal therapy around their trauma or completed the phase one group. This is a process group.

SASSE - Sexual Assault Survivors Support and Empowerment Group
