Dick Davis

Leading scholar Dick Davis to join the Persian program during Winter/Spring 2013



The department is proud to announce that the renowned scholar of Persian literature professor Dick Davis will join the Persian program during winter and spring 2013. Dr. Davis was the chair of Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at Ohio State University. He is an accomplished poet in his own right, and is recognized as the preeminent translator of Persian poetry. His translation of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh: the Persian Book of Kings was chosen as one of the “ten best books of 2006” by the Washington Post.

In winter 2013 Dr. Davis will teach "Introduction to Persian Literature” and “Iranian Women Writers" (both in English). In spring, he will teach “Persian Literature in Translation” (in Persian) and “Persian Mythology and Folklore” (in English). Dr. Davis’ residency at PSU is supported by a grant from the PARSA Community Foundation in an effort to promote Persian Studies at PSU.
