Dr. Ostlund received her Ph.D. in Spanish literature from the University of Maryland, College Park, where she specialized in the literature of Spain's Golden Age. Her research focuses on the historical theater dramatizing events of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. Her publications include The Re-Creation of History in the Fernando and Isabel Plays of Lope de Vega (Peter Lang, 1997) and articles in the Bulletin of the Comediantes, Comedia Performance, and the Colorado Review of Hispanic Studies . Her secondary research interest is community-based learning, and she has been the recipient of several grants in this area. She has taught courses at the intermediate through graduate levels in language, phonetics, and the literature of Spain from the Middle Ages through the nineteenth century.
