Name: Farrens Endowed Study Abroad Scholarship
Sponsor: College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Description: This scholarship provides financial support to a student who might not otherwise be able to afford a study abroad trip of a term, semester or year to a non-English-speaking country. Although not required, we hope that students who receive this award will find a way to pay it forward by giving in some way to those PSU students who come after them.
Criteria: One scholarship will be awarded to a student who meets the following minimum criteria:
•    Full-time PSU student
•    Completion of at least 90 credits (junior standing)
•    Completing of at least 12 credits of a world language at PSU
•    3.0 overall GPA
•    3.0 GPA in all WLL classes
•    Financial need
•    Attendance of a study abroad program approved by PSU Education Abroad Office that takes place in a non-English-speaking country and that has an explicit language component
 Application:
1) Application forms available in NH 491 or at www.pdx.edu/wll/world-languages-and-literatures-scholarships (scroll down to the bottom of the page)
2) Transcript of all course work (may be unofficial)
3) Essay in English to include: language study; international experience to date; plans for study abroad; how study abroad experience will affect future plans
4) Two letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from PSU language faculty

Selection/Award Process:
1) Submit completed application to WLL by April 1st
2) Recipient will be notified by May 16th.
3) Funds will be available during the following academic year
4) Award will be presented at WLL spring graduation/award celebration (June 11th)
