Middle Eastern Scholarships
FLAS Middle East Language Scholarships, 2010-11
The Portland State University Middle East Studies Center (MESC), in cooperation with the World Languages and Literatures Department, is seeking applications for fellowships for Academic Year 2010-2011 under the U.S. Department of Education’s Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship program. Generous scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students who are studying Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Turkish are available beginning this term. There are 4 undergraduate awards of $10,000 plus $5,000 living allowance, and 2 graduate awards for $18,000 and $15,000 living allowance.
These fellowships are available to undergraduate and graduate students in any department who are pursuing a course of academic study which requires Middle East-related advanced foreign language and area studies training and who plan to use the training and language skills for graduate study or a career in an international field. We are especially interested in reaching students focused on Middle East language and area studies from a wide range of majors and professional schools. Please help by encouraging well-qualified students to apply.
