Portland State University (PSU) has expanded its teaching and research partnerships in Vietnam since 2003. Likewise, many Vietnamese institutions are actively seeking out Portland State University, in collaboration with Oregon community partners, for mutual learning and professional development.
Each year, several PSU interns are sent during the summer and academic term to work closely with Vietnamese agencies and NGOs, and every Fall quarter, Professor Marcus Ingle (Public Administration) leads a group of Executive Masters in Public Administration students to Quang Nam province and Hoi An to learn more about public leadership challenges and solutions.
In April 2013 and October 2013, PSU hosted two delegations of State Dept Professional Fellows, who stayed here for one month. Hosted by local Portland-based organizations and institutions, these Professional Fellows gain hands-on experiences with both the successes and challenges Portland faces in its sustainable development. They are also building valuable relationships that continue and deepen the learning exchanges between Portland/PSU and Vietnam.
