REC CENTER POOL/SPA CLOSURE: March 1 - 12, 2014
Author: Campus Recreation
Posted: February 10, 2014
There will be a Rec Center pool/spa-only closure from Saturday, March 1 through Wednesday, March 12, 2014. We recognize that this is a significant inconvenience for those that frequent this part of the facility so we would like to share some important information and alternatives available during the closure.

When will the pool area be closed?
The pool/spa will be closed from March 1 - March 12, 2014.

What does the closure of the pool area include?
The pool, spa, and general Aquatics area will be closed to members for the duration of the repairs.

What programs will be impacted?
The following programs will not be available between March 1 - March 12:
Lap Swimming
Kayak Pool Sessions
Water X Group Fitness Classes

Why will the pool be closed?
The swimming pool must be closed in order to complete extensive maintenance and renovation. The pool has a leak that we attempted to repair last August during our Big Scrub facility closure. Despite our best efforts at the time, the repair has proven to be unsuccessful. We are currently coordinating 3 different organizations, including the manufacturer from Italy, who are going to be completing a thorough inspection and overhaul of the pool shell and we expect that this should resolve this issue once and for all.  This will ensure the long term quality of the PSU Aquatic experience.

What types of repairs will you be doing?
Take a short tour below the pool to find out more about the leak and repairs needed to fix it.

Why didn't you fix it during previous closures?
We attempted to repair the pool last August during our Big Scrub facility closure. Almost immediately, the repair failed. Despite our best efforts at the time, the repair has proven to be unsuccessful. We are currently coordinating 3 different organizations, including the manufacturer from Italy, who are going to be completing a thorough inspection and overhaul of the pool shell and we expect that this should resolve this issue once and for all.

Why can't you wait until your next closure?
We are coordinating a extensive overhaul of the pool shell between 3 to 4 organizations who all have a vested interest in resolving this issue and this was identified as the optimum time for scheduling these repairs.

Are you going to issue membership refunds?
No. There is no equitable way to refund students and affiliate memberships. However, we are providing alternatives for swimmers and offering a swimmer member appreciation during the closure.

We recognize that closing the pool is an inconvenience and we don't like it either. Please know that the rest of the facility is open and available to you. And, as a token of our appreciation for your patronage, we will have a small gift for swimmers at the guard table when the pool re-opens.

What are alternatives for me to swim?

We have arranged to offer lap swimming time at the Stott Center Pool. Our staff will be onsite to lifeguard and towels will be available on the deck at no charge. Please see the lifeguard on the pool deck to get the towel.

Stott Center Lap Swim Hours
Mondays / Wednesdays / Fridays : 7:00 am - 12:00 pm
Thursdays : 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Who can I contact if I have further questions?
