I have decided to step down as dean of the College of Urban and Public Affairs at the end of this summer. This has been a remarkable nine years for me. I am grateful for every day I have been able serve in this capacity and work with each of you to help advance the mission of Portland State. I look forward to continued progress on our shared interests over the next several months.
At the completion of my duties as Dean I will start a sabbatical as a Senior Public Health Fellow at the Moore Institute at OHSU and a Senior Scholar at the Berkeley Media Studies Group. These organizations represent the two substantive areas to which I need to commit the final part of my career-- the science on the developmental origins of health and disease and the framing of public policy and community initiatives to promote the public’s health.
As you can appreciate, I have given this decision long and careful thought, and I know that this is the right path at the right time for me. I am very excited about the future and look forward to doing everything I can to make a difference in this world. I will continue to be part of the Portland State community and look forward to returning at the end of my sabbatical. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with each and every one of you and anticipate potential collaboration on future initiatives in my continuing work with PSU.
