About inq

Inspired by and organized under the goals central to the University Studies Program, inq is an undergraduate student organization committed to the advancement of student-centered learning and academic excellence in higher education.

Focusing our efforts on further opening the exchange of ideas through greater dialogue between the disciplines, inq seeks in numerous ways to foster more visible and participatory forms of communication and critical engagement amongst the student body at PSU, and strives to meet the challenges of personalizing the ever-changing face and curricular dynamics of undergraduate scholarship.

To this end, inq, with the support of the student community at PSU and select faculty members within the UNST Program, is currently the driving force behind inq: A Journal of Undergraduate Research and the annual UNST Sponsored Conference of Undergraduate Research.

inq: A Journal of Undergraduate Research

inq is an interdisciplinary undergraduate research journal founded on the simple, albeit invaluable premise that through an open exchange of students’ individual academic pursuits the potential for strengthening the collective bonds of the student community as a whole will become more fully realized. As an outlet for undergraduates to develop, rework, and craft the products of their academic endeavors, inq intends to provide students with an opportunity to gain greater insight into the process of publishing scholarly research, and present to those students who publish in inq a unique advantage to move more preparedly into the upper echelons of academia.

Conference on Undergraduate Research

Similar to the motivation behind the journal, the UNST Sponsored Conference on Undergraduate Research is designed to serve the student community not only as a means through which individuals will advance their own unique paths of study through an open exchange and presentation of their academic pursuits and interests, but serve also as a reference point for those students’ peers to experience work they might not otherwise have been aware of being conducted around them. The conference is held annually in May and is open to participation from all aspects of undergraduate research conducted at Portland State University, as well as to audiences as interests of the public at large.
