Cluster: Women's Studies (No longer offered as of fall 2012)
The Women’s Studies cluster and the Sexualities cluster are ended and replaced by a single cluster – Gender and Sexualities cluster. Those previously in these clusters may take the following pathways to complete this new cluster:
- A student who has Sexualities or Women’s Studies SINQ can meet the cluster course requirements by taking one or more courses from the Gender and Sexualties cluster.
- A student who has already taken Sexualities or Women’s Studies SINQ, but still needs additional SINQs to meet UNST requirements, may count Gender and Sexualties SINQ as one of their options.
- A student who has taken previously approved cluster courses listed in Sexuality or Women’s Studies cluster may use those courses to meet the Gender and Sexualties cluster course requirements.
- A student who has taken previously approved cluster courses listed in Sexualities or Women’s Studies, but still need to take the connected SINQ, may meet the SINQ requirements by taking the Gender and Sexualties SINQ.
- Other cases will be resolved on a case by case basis. Students should not be disadvantaged by having to take additional University Studies requirements because of this programmatic change.
- A student can only count Gender and Sexualities SINQ once to meet the UNST requirements.
Cluster: Women's Studies (No longer offered as of fall 2012)
The field of Women's Studies originated as an interdisciplinary effort to uncover women's experience past and present. Today, the field focuses on gender as a category of analysis and explores the impact of gender on all areas of social life. Although feminist scholarship is diverse in terms of methods and theoretical frameworks, its common basis lies in this focus on gender difference and issues of inequality organized around gender. This focus is central to all courses in this cluster.

Sophomore Inquiry: Introduction to Women's Studies
(UNST 280)
In this course students analyze the varieties of women's experience in contemporary American society, consider how gender relations may be changing, and investigate the social, political, economic, and cultural forces that shape our lives as women and men. Feminist thinking within and across academic disciplines frames the exploration of these topics. Attention is paid to relations of inequality organized along lines of race, ethnicity, class and sexual orientation as well as gender.
This SINQ leads to the Women's Studies Cluster.
