Description
Foursquare is a location-based social networking website for mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets. Users “check-in” at venues using a mobile website, text messaging or a device-specific application by selecting from a list of venues the application locates nearby. Each check-in awards the user points and sometimes “badges.”
Audience
Primarily current and prospective students; secondary audience consists of campus guests and visitors
PSU Metrics
- To increase follower base
- To encourage students to explore campus and participate in events and activities
- To communicate campus traditions and historical facts
- To direct students to campus facilities such as dining halls and bookstores by providing targeted specials and promotions
- To foster deeper school pride
Instruction for PSU departments and groups
Do not create your own Foursquare venue page because chances are, it already exists
Directions
- Visit www.foursquare.com/portland_state and follow PSU
- Using a mobile device like a smartphone, “check in” to a favorite PSU venue like the Smith Union using the Foursquare app
