Our team manages Portland State University’s brand. We develop and implement reputation-building strategies that inspire audiences to attend, invest or recommend Portland State. Marketing is responsible for the University’s graphic identity, trademark licensing, social media, online reputation, advertising and the Virtual Viking newsletter. We lead the Integrated Marketing Council, provide campus professionals advice and resources they can use to accomplish unit marketing communication goals, and loan display materials to employees representing the University.
Non-paid media promotions are powerful ways to promote the University. Our experts in media relations write press releases and prepare press kits. We also connect media with faculty experts and advise units on making good use of media resources, whether the media is print, broadcast, online, or otherwise.
While we continue to manage the exciting Umbrella Tours community relations program, we also advise units looking to create or boost awareness of Portland State's programs and services to external constituents.
Our Web team provides strategic oversight, direction, training and support for the University's core web sites hosted within the Enterprise, inclusive of all sites to the right of pdx.edu/. We also maintain the top-level University Web pages and field general web inquiries and requests.
Our creative services team can help departments and programs plan, design, and produce effective, professional communications (brochures, mailers, videos, electronic campaigns) that meet University style and message standards. Depending on our workload and the scope of your project, we can either use our in-house team or refer you to outside resources.
Portland State Magazine, Currently, and Virtual Viking
The department produces Portland State Magazine for alumni and friends, the Currently e-newsletter for employees, and Virtual Viking for current students. We welcome ideas for stories or other submissions to either publication.
Subscribe to a mailing list for communicators and marketers and use the list to pose questions, share communication strategies and receive identity related announcements.
Portland State authorizes the use of the University's name and logos on merchandise through a formal licensing and trademark program administered in partnership with the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC).
