Profile: Learning Garden Laboratory

Promoting sustainable gardening, growing food and healthy nutrition.

Established in 2005 through a partnership between Portland State University,Portland Public Schools and Portland Parks and Recreation, LGL (LearningGardens Laboratory) provides a space for K-12, undergraduate and graduatestudents to practice sustainable gardening, growing food and healthynutrition. This 11-acre garden educationsite located in Southeast Portland has evolved over theyears, creating new partnerships in order to expand its capacity to providespace as a learning laboratory. Thenewest partnerships include Oregon State University's Extension Services aswell as OSU Master Gardener and Organic Gardening Certification programs. Partnerships such as these, paired withassistance from LECL graduate assistants, PSU senior capstone students andvolunteers allows for LGL to be a fun, interactive space for learning hand-onabout sustainable gardening and growing food.
