FAQ: How do I view Google Analytics reports for my Portland State web site?

Many Portland State websites (all those that use the central Drupal content management system plus several that do not) use a single Google Analytics code to gather data about site users and activity. The following instructions are for such sites.

Start the sign up process with Google Analytics here: www.google.com/analytics/. Click on the 'Sign Up Now' link below "Access Analytics." Click the 'Sign Up Now' link below "Don't have a Google Account?" and complete the resulting form. When you're entering an e-mail address, you can use your @pdx.edu account [recommended] or other Google account (i.e., gmail or other account you associate with a Google application). Hereafter, you'll visit the Google Analytics site and click the "Access Analytics" button to login with this account information.

Once you've signed up, send e-mail to webcom@pdx.edu. Include the e-mail address you signed up with and we'll give you access to the www.pdx.edu report or create a profile specific to your site.

When logged in to Google Analytics...

  • If your site address is in the form www.pdx.edu/sitename: click the link to the www.pdx.edu report. In the bottom right of the Dashboard is a section called Content Overview. Click on the 'view report' link, then click on the 'view full report' link on the next page. This takes you to the Top Content screen. At the bottom, you'll see a find page search feature. Make sure that "contains" is the selected option and enter
    /sitename/
in the search box. [For example, if your site URL is www.pdx.edu/ucomm/, enter /ucomm/ in the box.] Click the Go button. The screen should now display only data related to your site.

Or

  • If your site address is in the form www.sitename.pdx.edu: click the link to your site profile. [It may be the only link present.]
