Pat Boas, assistant professor of art at Portland State University, is the recipient of the 21st annual Bonnie Bronson Fellowship Award. A public celebration honoring Boas will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 in the Grey Lounge of Kaul Auditorium, Reed College.
Boas is an artist, writer and educator whose work has been shown in numerous museums and galleries throughout the world, including the Portland Art Museum. She was born in Chicago and raised in northeastern Ohio. She holds a master’s degree in fine art from PSU. Boas has coordinated the MFA in Contemporary Art Practice program at PSU since 2007.
Bonnie Bronson was an accomplished Northwest artist who died in a climbing accident on Mt. Adams in 1990. Family and friends established the Bonnie Bronson Fund in her memory in 1991 in order to publish a catalog documenting Bronson’s work and life, and to award an annual fellowship to a working artist to advance and encourage intellectual and creative growth.
Part of the fund goes to purchasing works by the fellowship recipient. The fund bought six of Boas’ works, which will be part of the Bonnie Bronson Collection housed at Reed College.
