Resources for students with disabilities

As a student at Portland State University, it is very important that you are informed about the services available to you through the Disability Resource Center. These services can help assist you in the pursuit of your academic goals. Portland State University is committed to the development of a proactive and responsive environment for all academically qualified students. We strive to provide an environment where students may work to reach their maximum potential academically, professionally, and socially.

Having a disability may impact various areas of your academic experience at Portland State University. The DRC Student Handbook was created to answer some of the most commonly asked questions by students with disabilities. It gives an overview of services available and contains a resource list of various campus support offices and programs. It is a supplement to other publications from Portland State University.

The following resources are available to students at Portland State University:

  • The Assitive Technology Center is an adpated technology computer lab located in the Portland State University library and available to students and community members with disabilities.

  • The Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is available to students registered for 9 or more credit hours. Provides crisis or brief counseling, psychological assessment, vocational counseling, and aptitude assessment.

  • The Disability Advocacy Cultural Association (DACA) is a student organization that promotes advocacy and provides support for students who have disabilities.

  • The Educational Equity Programs and Services (EEPS) The EEPS provides services to students who come from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in post-secondary education.

  • The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provides services and special assistance to traditionally under-represented student populations and students with disabilities who meet certain criteria.

  • The Skills Enhancement and Tutoring Center offers free tutoring services for most 100- and 200-level courses as well as study skills workshops.

  • The Testing Center proctors exams for students who are eligible for testing accommodations.

  • Transportation and Parking can assist with arrangements for parking for students with disabilities.
