Profile: Visit the Smith Memorial Student Union

The Smith Memorial Student Union is the center of student life. If you're looking for food, a bank, student services, or just a place to hang out...Smith is it.

The Smith Memorial Student Union is the spot for catching up with a friend, having a bite to eat, listening to the latest live music from the Portland music scene, or joining a student organization. If you're looking for an informal meeting area, somewhere to buy a birthday card, or a place to practice your bowling skills, then head for the Smith Memorial Student Union. It houses several places to eat including the University Food Court, and the Food for Thought Cafe -- a student-run sustainable eatery -- as well as banks, student information, support services and art galleries.

Sky bridges and tunnels attach this central building to Cramer Hall, Neuberger Hall, University Services Building, School of Business Administration, School of Education and Parking Building 2.

History

The Smith Memorial Student Union was built in four phases between 1957 and 1963. The east part of the building was originally a library, and still has its own separate mechanical and electrical buildings. A major remodel has recently been completed of the building.
