The Academic Support Program (ASP) is designed to provide eligible PSU students who are struggling academically with additional support, mentoring and advising. The ASP program includes a three-credit College Success course, study skills workshops, educational planning, mentoring and referrals to other PSU campus resources.
Conditionally Admitted Students: Freshman
who are conditionally
admitted to Portland State University will work with an adviser in the
ASP and we will assist you in your transition to University life. For 2009-10, the ASP offers two options for conditionally admitted freshman to participate: ROADS to Success (a three-credit course that occurs September 15th-24th, 2009 plus a one-credit fall term seminar for a total of four-credit hours) OR College Success (a three-credit fall term course). Students will meet with an ASP Adviser during their Orientation: Advising & Registration Day.
Students on Academic Warning or Academic Probation:
Students having academic difficulties and/or those on academic warning
or probation are encouraged to discuss their situation with a UASC
adviser to determine whether they are eligible for the program.
Dismissed Students: In order to be reinstated to PSU, students MUST petition
the Scholastic Standards Committee
for formal reinstatement. The petition for reinstatement requires a personal statement, academic plan, any appropriate supporting documentation and a letter of recommendation. Letters of recommendation are best written by faculty or advisers on campus (or on the campus where the most recent attendance occurred). If you are unsure about any part of this process, please contact an adviser in the Academic Support Program or an academic adviser in the UASC for more information. It is a good idea to have the personal statement written before making an appointment with an adviser as well as a tentative academic plan.
Many students who have been dismissed also have to petition for release of their Financial Aid. Contact the PSU Financial Aid office if you have questions regarding your financial aid status.
