Advising at Portland State

There are many different advising options available to you as a prospective or new transfer student.

Admission Counseling

Admission counselors are available to assist you with your questions about admission requirements, the process and most anything related to gaining admission to Portland State. There are several ways to contact your admission counselor, including a campus tour and transfer information session, personal meeting or email or phone contact.

Academic Advising

Academic advisers can help you develop a course plan prior to transfer and share any particular admission requirements for their majors. They can also discuss information about degree and major requirements. Undecided about your major? We have advisers to help you, too!

Please note that you will meet with an academic adviser at your Orientation session. Appointments outside of Orientation will not substitute for attending Orientation.

    Academic Success Programs

There are several programs on campus designed to help transfer students achieve academic success. These programs offer many services, including advising and resource referral.

Student Support Services-TRiO: The mission of TRiO is to increase the retention and graduation rates of eligible low income, first generation and disable students.

Diversity and Multicultural Student Services (DMSS): DMSS provides structured support services to student populations whose access, retention, academic success, and graduation are most challenged by social historical factors and contemporary inequities.

Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP): LSAMP is dedicated to enhancing the undergraduate experience for underrepresented students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
