Major in Theater Arts
Undergraduates in theater arts are expected to acquire basic skills in performance, design and production, dramatic literature, and theater history. These basic skills are developed in the core requirements. The remaining credits are met through a selected option, performance, design/production, or general, which provides for flexibility and allows a student to specialize in an area of interest.

Major in Film
Undergraduates in film are expected to acquire basic skills in theory, history, criticism, and practice. Core requirements are met and electives are available through curricular offerings in the Department of Theater Arts. Students may also use electives from an approved list of courses from Art, Music, Arts & Sciences, and the Northwest Film Center.

Secondary Education Program
It is imperative that the student who wishes to teach theater arts in secondary school be in contact with the Department of Theater Arts secondary education adviser as early as possible, so that various options and requirements can be fully explained and a program of study developed.

Ten Things You Should Know About Theater Arts at PSU 1.
Theater Arts offers a comprehensive liberal arts-based pre-professional
program, as well as specialization in theater, film and dance
disciplines. 2. Theater Arts has small classes and majors and minors receive personal attention. 3.
Theater Arts faculty work professionally in the region's arts
organizations and creative services sector, frequently assisted by
their students. 4. Theater Arts visiting faculty in acting,
directing, design, and production are drawn from the ranks of
professionals in the local and national theater and film community. 5.
Theater Arts offers numerous performance opportunities for students.
Each year, we stage three major productions in the 476-seat Lincoln
Performance Hall, as well as a score of other performances in the
department's intimate Studio Theater. 6. Located in the
Cultural District in the heart of Portland, Theater Arts is within easy
walking distance of many of the city's theaters, cinemas, museums,
libraries, galleries, and arts organizations. 7. Theater Arts students are active both on campus and in the region's professional theater and film scene. 8. Theater Arts students are encouraged as part of their degree program to set up one-on-one
independent learning contracts with regular and visiting faculty as
well as internships with urban arts organizations and creative services
providers. 9. PSU students with an interest in theater are
encouraged to join Drama Productions, the student-run arm of the
Theater Arts production program. Drama Productions co-sponsors the
annual three mainstage productions and student director showcase. 10. All PSU students, regardless of major, are eligible to participate in Theater Arts productions and activities.
