Office Assistants (Federal work-study)

Purpose of the Positions
The School of Music office is looking for student office assistants to provide office support to the office for reception (both phone and in person), also work on projects at the directions of the staff and support other office operations (e.g., typing, photocopying, faxing, filing, and errands). The most important part of these positions is to assist faculty, staff, students and the public in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Performs reception duties in a friendly and sincere way by answering office telephones, routing calls to appropriate person, taking messages, greeting office visitors, answering routine questions or referring questions to the appropriate person.
- Checking in/out instruments, lockers, practice room access codes for students.
- Schedules appointments for students to meet with music advisors. Works on assigned projects for staff. Additional duties will be assigned by the Executive Assistant to the School Director and Office Coordinator. Successful candidates for these positions must be reliable, responsible, self motivated, work independently, excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; take instructions from multiples sources. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word. Knowledge of Excel is a plus. Strong writing skills.
Environment is one of frequent public contact via telephone, email and in-person. Mobility is necessary to unlock rooms, deliver errands, or post notices. There may be unpredictable interruptions. This office must maintain a professional look. Clothing should be business casual: sandals, sneakers, and clean (not torn) jeans are okay; gym clothes, bare midriffs, halters, tank tops, short skirts, see-through blouses, and beach attire are not appropriate for this office.

Midi Lab Monitors - (Federal work-study & Regular Wage)
Starting at $9.50/hour
Monitor student computer lab usage and maintain computer lab security; ensure that all computer lab equipment is in working order; troubleshoot problems related to computers, synthesizers, MIDI, printer and network. Work closely with students. Answer and resolve problems that they may have; may be required to perform basic office duties such as preparing bulk mailings. Other duties will be assigned. Computer ability with Mac; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, experience with synthesizers and MIDI a plus, but not required; able to work in a high-energy, dynamic environment; excellent English skills.
This position requires current enrollment as a PSU student with a minimum of 6 credits per academic term for an undergraduate student and 5 credits for a graduate student.
