Prospective student advising
IN ADDITION TO UNIVERSITY ADMISSION, ALL PROGRAMS IN THE COLLEGE OF THE ARTS HAVE SPECIFIC ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS IN THE MAJORS, EITHER AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION TO PSU, OR AT THE JUNIOR LEVEL.
We are more than happy to meet with prospective students. Prospective student advising involves discussing possible major interests in the College of the Arts. We can discuss general information about the College and Portland State University. Advisors are available to meet with prospective students during drop-in times.
Please be advised that advisors cannot review transcripts. Transcripts are reviewd by the PSU Admissions, Records, and Registration Office during the PSU Admissions Application process. Advisors do not set up academic plans for non-PSU students.
If you are attending a current Oregon Community College or University, you can check the U Select website to see if a class you are taking might transfer. U Select is a reference site. It is not an official acceptance of transfer credit. Transfer credit acceptance will be determined during the PSU Admission process.

Tips for Transfer Students:
Keep copies of course descriptions and syllibi for classes. Sometimes, classes might not directly transfer and you may need to petition for transfer credit acceptance.
Keep a portfolio of your work. You may need portfolio documentation when you petition for transfer credit or if you think you might have completed a pre-req for a class. Plus, it's a good habit to start a portfolio.
- Architecture: Photos/CD of Architecture models, plans, and art work
- Art + Design: Photos/CD of Art work, documentation of gallery installations, notable recognition of your work
- Music: Recordings/video of performances, recordings of recording projects (studio work), recordings/ documentation of compositions/arrangements
- Theatre & Film: Recordings/video of performances, documentation of playwright compositions, portfolio of designs and production.
