Art History Study Abroad

Most summers Professor Locker leads an intensive, two-week, 8-credit art history program in Rome, Italy. The course serves as an intensive introduction to the city's painting, sculpture, architecture, and city planning, with an emphasis on the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Through daily excursions to sites in conjunction with lectures, readings, student presentations, and guided exploration, students gain a grasph of fundamental concepts, methods, and issuesstudy in the history of art. At the same time, students gain a comprehension of the history, topography, and culture of Rome and its environs. Living in apartments in the center of the old city, taking public transit, and experiencing the city from a local perspective, students get a unique and immersive experience.
