Advising in the School of Architecture
Meet with an Architecture Faculty Adviser
All transfer students and freshmen are required to meet with an adviser in their major field of study in their first year at Portland State University. A hold is placed on students' accounts so that they may not register for second-year classes until this requirement has been fulfilled. Information about this requirement may be found at the First-Year Mandatory Advising Requirement web page.
In addition, students in the School of Architecture are encouraged to meet with our full-time faculty on a regular basis in order to review their academic progress, receive guidance with planning their Architecture and other courses, and ensure that they are meeting their requirements for graduation. Students are not assigned a particular faculty adviser; each of our faculty members can be consulted for academic and degree-planning guidance.
Faculty advising hours by term are posted in the School of Architecture office. To schedule an appointment with an Architecture faculty member during his or her advising hours, please contact the School of Architecture office at (503) 725-8405 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Meet with a College of the Arts Adviser
Prospective and new students may also meet with advisers in the College of the Arts regarding general education and other university requirements. Information about how to meet with a College adviser is available at the College of the Arts advising page.
University Advising Requirements
All new undergraduate students (freshmen and transfers) are required to attend an Orientation: Advising & Registration session offered by New Student Orientation prior to registration for their first term at Portland State.
All new undergraduate students are also required to receive academic advising from their intended major department during their first year. Students who have not chosen a major will receive advising from Advising & Career Services (ACS).
All other undergraduates are encouraged to seek advising from their major department or pre-professional program as soon as possible.
Prospective transfer students with advising questions are encouraged to meet with advisers in the majors they are interested in pursuing. If they are unsure which majors/programs they plan to pursue they can receive advising in Advising & Career Services.
