The SCHOOL OF MUSIC offers 14 DEGREE OPTIONS for undergraduate students and 5 DEGREE OPTIONS for graduate students, with the areas of study being Performance, Composition, Conducting, Jazz Studies, Music Theory, Music History, Music Education, Pedagogy, Music Technology and Ethnomusicology. The Bachelor of Music degrees each offer an intensive music performance track, while the Bachelor of Arts in Music and Bachelor of Science in Music degrees each offer a broader liberal arts education. Students pursuing a degree in Music Education or Composition are not admitted to these programs until their Junior year and must first submit additional materials for review by their specific area. Graduate students can earn a Master of Music in Performance, Jazz Studies or Conducting. For educators seeking an advanced degree with more of an academic emphasis, the Master of Arts in Music or Master of Science in Music degrees are both options.

With the Portland Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA) and other performance venues nearby, students enjoy many opportunities to hear the finest musicians in the world. Students gain practical performance experience by participating with many professional and pre-professional groups including Portland Opera, Portland Symphonic Choir, Oregon Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Musical Theater Company, and the Portland Youth Philharmonic.
