William Newman, Managing Director of Northwest Technology Ventures -- a $14 million Oregon seed fund focusing on technology-based startups -- joins the PSU School of Business Administration this fall as an instructor in the school's new entrepreneurship certificate program.

Bill will bring his vast experience as a university researcher, entrepreneur, and investor to teaching MGMT 481, a course designed to guide students through the fundamentals of entrepreneurship.

After earning a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and applied mathematics, Bill joined the research faculty at MIT. There, his cancer treatment research resulted in patented inventions that he licensed from MIT to found a spinout that developed medical monitoring instrumentation. Bill later earned an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and subsequently spent five years in venture capital at Shaw Ventures in Portland, a $90 million SBIC venture fund.
