Andrew Giarelli receives grant to lecture on new media and the 'Arab Spring' democracy movements

Andrew Giarelli, University Studies instructor, won an additional Fulbright Regional Travel Grant in May to lecture on new media and the "Arab Spring" democracy movements at the University of Malt School of International Relations while serving as 2011 Fulbright Senior Lecturer in American Studies at Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia. 

Chip Long chairs the Evelyn Waugh Society Conference in England, presents paper

Chip Long, International Studies and University Studies faculty, chaired the Evelyn Waugh Society Conference in August at Downside Abbey, Somerset, England. At the conference, he presented a paper, “‘He Must Have Been a Whole Time Job for You’: Condolences to Mrs. Waugh.” In addition, during the conference he was re-elected chairman of the society.

Anmarie Trimble and Amy Spreadborough release music CD

Anmarie Trimble, University Studies faculty, and Amy Spreadborough, University Studies adjunct faculty, are a Portland art-pop duo called Little Hexes and have released their first recording, In the Garden. Their new recording explores the stories of flawed historic and literary characters through spare arrangements of baritone and acoustic guitar, standup bass, cello, and minimalist keys and percussion.
