PSU professor brings chemistry to art conservation in Olympic Sculpture Park project

An innovative field project led by a Portland State University (PSU) chemist and the Seattle Art Museumwill help museums better prepare and preserve valuable outdoor sculptures.

Exhibition at the PAM features Dr. Lasseter Clare's research on a Han Dynasty Money Tree. The exhibition, on view through November 11, 2012, titled, "Cornerstones of a Great Civilization", highlights the first-ever collaborative project involving the unique analytical capabilities of the Chemistry Department's Regional Laboratory for the Science of Cultural Heritage Conservation and the Portland Art Museum.

New Ph.D. student Natasja Swartz has joined the Lasseter Clare Lab! Natasja completed her undergraduate degrees at the University of California at Santa Barbara with emphasis in Environmental Chemistry and Political Science. She joined the Portland State University Department of Chemistry in fall 2009 after working as a flavor chemist in San Diego, CA.
