Acclaimed Scholar to Give Free Lecture

What:
Angela Valenzuela, nationally acclaimed scholar and the author of Subtractive Schooling, will give a free lecture at Portland State University on "The Challenge of High-Stakes Testing with Children of Color." The event is part of PSU's Bilingual Teacher Pathway Program Lecture Series in Emerging Issues in a Pluralistic Society.

Portland State University, Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 355 (1825 SW Broadway).

PSU Summer Commencement

What:
Nearly 500 students will participate in Portland State University's summer 2005 commencement ceremony; representing the more than 1,500 undergraduate and graduate students receiving degrees summer term. Portland State University President Daniel O. Bernstine will deliver the commencement address. Approximately 2,000 spectators are expected to attend the event.

Head of Graduate School of Education to Retire, Interim Dean Appointed

Phyllis Edmundson, dean of the Graduate School of Education (GSE) for the past seven years, has announced her retirement, effective August 31, 2005. Carol L. Mack, currently the associate dean in the GSE, has been named as the interim dean until a search is completed.
