Portland State Celebrates Largest Graduating Class at Spring Commencement, June 17

This Saturday, June 17, Portland State University will graduate its largest class ever.


Portland State will award a total of 4,515 degrees for the 2005–06 academic year, including 3,050 bachelor’s degrees, 1,425 master’s degrees and 40 doctoral degrees. This marks the 11th consecutive year of growth in the University’s graduating class.

Portland State University Announces Deans' and President's Lists for Fall Term 2005

The Fall 2005 President's and Deans' lists have been released for all of Portland State University's undergraduate academic units.

Full- and part-time students must meet certain standards to qualify for a Dean's List.
Full-time students:

* Earn a 3.75 GPA (out of 4.0) or better for the Fall 2005 quarter for at least 12 graded credit hours for the quarter;
* Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
Part-time students:

Speaker Series Examines Math in Everyday Lives

An upcoming lecture series at Portland State takes an alternative approach to the age-old question from students: Why does math matter?

In the spirit of Portland State’s commitment to diversity, including diverse ways of knowing, the series “Alternative Forms of Knowledge Construction in Mathematics” will explore ways in which mathematics permeates people’s lives in cultural contexts throughout the world.

PSU's Graduate School of Education Appoints New Dean

Randy Hitz, professor and dean of the College of Education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, has been named dean of Portland State University’s Graduate School of Education effective July 1, 2006.
