Teresa Bulman, Geography faculty and Oregon Geographic Alliance, has received a $200,000 grant from the John and Betty Gray Geography Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation to improve geography education in Oregon’s K-12 schools. The grant will support OGA’s work in providing professional development programs for teachers, creation and dissemination of educational materials, community outreach and advocacy.

Middle East Studies Center Lunch & Learn: Arab Israeli Conflict and Cooperation: The Question of Water

This talk will explore the relationship between shared water resources and conflict and cooperation between Arabs and Israelis, and poses the question, "Does territory exist over which sovereignty has been sought politically or militarily, or which would be insisted upon in the course of current territorial negotiations, solely because of its access to water sources, and in the absence of any other compelling strategic or legal rationale?"

The award is presented by the National Council for Geographic Education to honor public educational media that have made extraordinary contributions to the promotion of geographic literacy.

Teresa Bulman receives appointment as Fellow of the Grosvenor Center for Geographic Education

The Gilbert M. Grosvenor Center for Geographic Education was established with the mission to encourage research and provide leadership in the movement to increase the quality of geographic education.

David Banis & Alexa Todd receive funding from the Mazamas

Their grant proposal was one of eigth to be funded out of thirty three applications.  The $2,435 grant will be used to support their project, "Mapping Landscape Values and Activities of Visitors to the Olympic Peninsula, Washington".  Watch the Geography Department "news" for results of their research!
