Richard Tapia, a highly regarded professor of engineering and award-winning mentor to minority students, will give the PSU Spring Commencement address—in two ceremonies—Sunday, June 16, at the Rose Garden Arena. For the first time, the University is holding a morning ceremony for all graduates of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and an afternoon rite for all other graduates. This arrangement replaces summer commencement and is an effort to shorten the ceremony for students and their families.

Beginning April 16, PSU will participate in the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). PSU participates in this survey every 2 to 3 years. The NSSE provides valuable information on Portland State's students engagement with the campus, as well as information on student engagement at our peer institutions. We hope that you will encourage freshman and senior students to complete the survey. The results will provide important data that we can use to support student success and improve the educational experiences of our students.
Long-distance authorization codes are no longer needed for calling within the United States from a PSU phone. The change is the result of a new funding proposal made to the PSU Process Improvement Committee and approved by President Wim Wiewel. Networking & Telecom Services will continue to track domestic long distance use for departments through an automated system, but no charges will be made. However, authorization codes will still be required to dial international phone numbers.
