STEM program expands throughout Portland-metro schools

Eight schools from Forest Grove to Parkrose will start the process of transforming to a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) curriculum during the next school year as a result of efforts by the Portland Metro STEM Partnership. Portland State University (PSU) is the lead higher education partner in the group.

The partnership, made up of school districts, higher education, businesses and informal educators such as OMSI and the Oregon Zoo, announced the school additions at the Intel-sponsored STEMposium, held April 19.

"A Wicked Evening" with bestselling author Amy Stewart, May 11, 6:30 p.m.

Amy Stewart, a New York Times bestselling author who writes about the perils and pleasures of the natural world, will deliver a public presentation, “A Wicked Evening with Amy Stewart” on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. Stewart is the inaugural Tin House Writer-in-Residence at Portland State University.

Two LSAMP Scholars to Present at the Emerging Researchers’ National Conference in Atlanta

Two LSAMP Scholars, Allie Simpson, Environmental Science, and Adilene Amaro-Zurito, Environmental Engineering, were selected to present posters at the Emerging Researchers' National Conference in Atlanta, GA. Ms. Simpson will discuss her work "The effects of mycorrhizal fungi on sex-specific competition in Distichlis spicata seedlings" under Dr. Sarah Eppley, Center for Life in Extreme Environments, Department of Biology, Portland State University. Ms.
