Leslie McBride, Community Health faculty; Janelle Voegele, Academic Excellence faculty; and Ellen West, Business Administration faculty, presented "Faculty Review in the 21st Century: Learning from Academic Portfolio Contributions" at the 37th Annual Professional and Organizational Development in Higher Education, Seattle, Oct. 24-28.

A collaboration to design a green portable school classroom has received a Civic Engagement Award from Portland State’s Center for Academic Excellence. The project won in the category of Excellence in Inter-Departmental / Inter-College Civic Engagement. The recipients are a Portland State team comprised of Oregon Solutions, the Department of Architecture, Institute for Sustainable Solutions, and the Office of Innovation and Intellectual Property.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has established a full-time “Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor” at Portland State University (PSU) to assist the growing number of returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Masami Nishishiba, Public Administration faculty; Kevin Kecskes, Academic Excellence faculty; and Brian Hoop, city of Portland, presented a best practices workshop, Building Multidisciplinary, Community-Connected Academic Programs for Civic Leadership, at the 2012 American Society for Public Administration Annual Conference at Las Vegas, Nev., March 6.

Masami Nishishiba, Public Administration faculty, and Kevin Kecskes, Academic Excellence faculty, co-authored "Capacity Building for the Common Good: PSU’s Interdisciplinary Minor in Civic Leadership" published in the Journal of College and Character, February 2012, Vol. 13, No. 1.
