The Center for Japanese Studies summer performing arts festival, Japan in Motion 2012 continues on Sunday, July 22nd with a PSU student performance:
The Dark Man, an original noh play, and The Washing Bucket, a Kyogen play.
The Dark Man, a journey into the soul of the ghost of a suffering revolution-era poet, is a modern noh drama. Written by PSU student-author Ania Kotenova, it fuses the literature and traditions of Japan, the USA and Russia.
The Washing Bucket is a light-hearted Kyogen play, incorporating high-energy theatrical movement pioneered by Suzuki Tadashi, and taught to the performers by award-winning Portland actress, Cristina Miles.
Performed in English by students of Theater Arts 099, 408, 508. Instructors Cristina Miles and Dr. Laurence Kominz.
