Sustainability Education

In fact, sustainability is a campus-wide learning outcome for every major.
With our urban campus as a vibrant living laboratory for green practices, students don’t just read about sustainability, they make it happen—planting green roofs, testing solar arrays, tracking transportation systems, and tending organic gardens. Student groups go green outside the classroom—Engineers Without Borders, the Permaculture Guild, cycling clubs, and even the student-run Ooligan Press.
Freshmen can choose a year-long Sustainability Living Learning Community option, where students live together in campus housing and take part in projects to create a more livable society. Seniors in capstone courses work as teams with businesses, nonprofits, and civic organizations to address sustainability issues in Portland and beyond.
