Get ready—PSU’s new campus apiary is buzzing with excitement! For those who don’t know, an “apiary” is a collection of beehives. Over the past year, I’ve been working in collaboration with other PSU students as well as faculty, staff, and local honeybee experts to bring an apiary to PSU’s Community Orchard.

My name is Stefanie Steele, and I am currently a junior biology major at PSU. I started at PSU in 2013 as a transfer student from the University of Cincinnati, but moved to Portland in 2012 seeking a change of pace and to see where life might take me! I am currently the Beekeeping Intern for the Student Sustainability Center (SSC) at Portland State. I’m leading a new and very exciting project for PSU—to bring beehives to campus!
